Where Silence Was Cut

Where Silence Was Cut

by Nika

Some gestures are too quiet to be called revolutions, yet they change everything. A single braid, held between trembling fingers and an open pair of scissors, becomes more than hair. It carries years of inherited silence, unspoken expectations, and the invisible weight of obedience. The women surrounding her are not strangers. They are the many selves she has carried through time ,memory, fear, tenderness, defiance, and hope. They witness the moment before the cut, when a simple gesture begins to speak louder than words. What falls is not beauty. It is permission once demanded by others. And what remains is a woman who chooses herself. For some, it is only a braid. For others, it is the echo of nights when cutting one’s hair became a language no voice could silence.
